For a first time guest in a casino, the Roulette is a highly recommendable game to start with. First thing to do is the purchase or buying in of the roulette chips. Each player has a specific color chip and these are good for the table that he is playing on. The player should exchange his roulette chips to regular casino chips before cashing his win.

There is a minimum and maximum bet for every roulette table. Combining inside and outside bets to meet the minimum bet on the table is not allowed. For example, if the minimum bet is ten dollars, the player needs to bet five dollars inside and another five dollars on the outside.

A player can make several inside bets like betting straight up or across the line between numbers for a combination. The payouts depend on the kind of bet made. A straight up bet is a bet on a single number and pays 35 to 1. A split bet is a bet by placing the chip so it crosses the line between 2 numbers and it pays 17 to 1. Street bets/line bet is made by placing the chip on the vertical line separating the outside and inside betting areas, and the chip straddles the first number on the row.

A corner bet/quad bet is made by placing a chip on the four corners of the numbers being wagered, and it pays 8 to 1. A basket bet is a five-number bet on zero - the numbers 1, 2, 3 and double zero - and it pays 6 to 1. A wager on six numbers is called a double street bet. The chip is placed the same way as the street bet only that this bet allows the chip to straddle the row above or below.

Any of the bets made in the boxes surrounding the numbers are called outside bets. Even money bets consist of red, black, odd and even. This is done by placing the chips in the boxes on the layout. A bet made on the twelve consecutive numbers is called the dozens bet. Wagers are placed in the boxes marked one to twelve, thirteen to twenty four or twenty five to thirty six. Dozens bet pay 2 to 1. A player loses if he gets a zero or double zero. Column bets are twelve-number bets consisting of the numbers in one of the three vertical columns and pays 2 to1. The bets are made in the boxes at the bottom of the layout.
